NewTek Announces Educational TriCaster

NewTek offers Special Educational Version of the TriCaster with an Unbeatable Upgrade Offer

This just in from NewTek. A new version of the TriCaster called the TriCaster Duo which was originally slated for release only through "Academic Distribution" is now being made available through NewTek' s Elite Partners.

Aimed at the education market, The TriCaster Duo allows students the experience of producing live video for morning bulletins, as well as webcasting of sporting events, band concerts, and plays.

Because of it's compact size, and super light weight the TriCaster Duo is the perfect portable TV studio, allowing students to mix up to three cameras, as well as pre-recorded video clips, and titles. The TriCaster Duo outputs to video, and to the Web.

NewTek is also including a specially designed curriculum with each TriCaster Duo which will allow educators to quickly and easily teach their students the ins and outs of live video production.

I finally got to take a look at an actual unit and here's the skinny. The TriCaster Duo has a severely limited feature set; most notably, the absence of the editor. The Unit does have a single DDR, and Picture Player, as well as the full 2.0 version of the CG including both Text Templates and the Text Editor.

For output, the TriCaster Duo will Push and Pull stream to the Web, but lacks the ability to stream in FLASH. The unit also lacks the second DVI port for "Projector Out" Also, it is running XP Home edition, and can join a network Workgroup, but can't join a Domain.
